On October 16, the Midview Local School District welcomed local leaders and partners for our State of the Schools Address.

The annual State of the Schools Address highlighted the current state of our schools, focusing on past achievements, present updates, and future initiatives. This year, we shared insights into several key areas:

  • The 2023-24 Ohio School Report Card: The Ohio School Report Card is an important resource that provides insights into our district's performance based on the Ohio State Tests. For the third consecutive year, Midview Local Schools has achieved an impressive 21 out of 25 stars, with an overall district rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. In the ODE’s “Similar Districts” framework, Midview outperformed most districts with similar demographics, averaging 4.5 stars and ranking first overall.  Additionally, our schools ranked third in Lorain County and within the top 30% in the state—a testament to our dedication and hard work.

  • Strategic Planning: We have achieved many of the goals outlined in our 2020-25 strategic plan, making great strides in safety improvements, unique educational pathways and programming, and social-emotional learning. While we are certain these areas will serve as continued points of focus for us moving forward, we will soon begin the process of developing our 2025-30 strategic plan. This process will start at the turn of the new year and will include several opportunities for community involvement.

  • Our Facilities and Infrastructure: To better understand enrollment trends, school districts regularly conduct enrollment studies. This data helps us better understand how to allocate resources, plan for the future, and make strategic decisions. In the Address, we discussed our latest study, which examined open enrollment trends, historical enrollment data, and projected growth. While we have significantly reduced open enrollment over the past few years, our overall enrollment has remained steady. This consistency reflects the growth we’re experiencing in our community and the increasing number of Midview families we must serve. The findings from this study, combined with our Permanent Improvement Schedule and Facilities & Athletics Maintenance Schedule, will ensure our facilities continue to meet the educational, safety, and social-emotional needs of our students while supporting our district’s growth.

Mike Resar, Treasurer, provided the district’s financial update, including the five-year forecast covering general fund revenues, expenditures, and cash balance.

Jodi Wolf, Director of Curriculum & Instruction, and Meredith Udris, Director of Pupil Services, shared key highlights in their departments, such as our district math and English Language frameworks, instructional coaching, embedded tutoring, intervention programming, and social-emotional support. Each building principal also provided updates on instruction and programming, PBIS, community events, athletics/activities, career-technical education, and more.

Nikki Campbell, Director of Personnel and Operations, concluded the address with an overview of our communication practices and the importance of partnerships that support our students' academic, social, and personal growth. She also provided insights into our staffing efforts to attract and retain high-quality educators.

The complete slide deck can be accessed at midviewk12.org/superintendent in the “Relevant Links” section. Additionally, students from our Midview High School Broadcasting Arts and Communications class recorded the address for anyone who would like to watch it. The full video will be available in the same location in the coming days.

As always, we remain committed to transparency and maintaining open communication with our community as we strive to provide the best educational experience for our students. We are incredibly grateful for the strong network of families, local businesses, and community members who stand by us and contribute to our shared goals. It is this collective effort that brings meaning to “We Are Midview” and allows us to celebrate our successes.
