Our 5th and 6th grade students have been hard at work designing and building 18 upcycled mini-golf holes for our upcoming Elementary STEM Night on April 25! A "Coding Crew" has even been meeting after school to learn how to bring elements of each hole to life using Hummingbird Robotics Kits (funded by the Ohio STEM Learning Network grant East received last year)! In addition to the mini golf course, this exciting evening of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) exploration will also include: - Activity stations such as milk jug and plastic bottle sun catchers, cereal box flowers, junk necklaces, plastic bag friendship bracelets, & seed bombs - West 3rd Grade Invention Convention projects - PLTW class showcase - informational math sessions - a green screen for photo opportunities - a Lorain County Waste Management informational table

Miss Barak and Mrs. Mlinarcik's third-graders have been working on opinion writing over the past few weeks. Recently, they had the chance to put those skills to the test with a fun Valentine's Day-themed writing activity. The topic of the task was to decide whether Conversation Hearts are the ultimate Valentine’s Day candy. Students conducted research, facilitated a taste test, and even created a poll to determine the classroom's preference. Check out the interesting facts students wrote about this sweet activity: Did you know… ❤️ The first conversation hearts were created by Daniel Chase in 1866. 🧡 More than 5 billion Conversation Hearts are made by the NECCO candy company every year. 💛 About half of Americans buy candy for Valentine’s Day each year, with Conversation Hearts being a top seller. 💚 Conversation Hearts can stay fresh for five years or more. 💙 10 new sayings are added each year to Conversation Hearts. 💜 One small box of NECCO Conversation Hearts candy contains 110 calories and 27 grams of sugar.

Yesterday, our Food Services Department held its annual Middie Chef Cook-Off! Nine total students (three from each elementary building) were chosen to represent their respective schools and prepare a culinary dish centered around the theme of "Healthy Desserts." A panel of judges selected three chefs who will continue representing their school in a final round on March 13! Thank you to all of our North, West, and East students who submitted recipes and displayed their culinary creativity in this annual competition! Good luck and congratulations to our finalists: Aspen Bott (North), Temperance Cindric (West), and Baron Carr (East)!

Mrs. Viers and Mrs. Reyes classes are doing a fantastic job with their Synonym Sort activity. Another word you can use to describe these 4th graders is tremendous (synonyms are great 😉)
