Report Card

The 2023-24 Ohio School Report Card from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) shows Midview Local Schools maintained 21 out of 25 stars for a third consecutive year, resulting in a 4.5 out of 5-star district rating. This is particularly noteworthy as Midview is among only 169 of Ohio’s 607 public schools to receive a rating of 4.5 stars or higher.

Ohio School Report Cards are designed to inform communities, educators, and policymakers about the performance of school districts as it relates to the Ohio State Tests.

Superintendent Dr. Frank Major expressed his gratitude for the collective efforts that have contributed to this achievement: “Our progress is a direct result of a community that values education and actively supports our schools, alongside a dedicated staff willing to do the work. Together, we have fostered an environment that promotes a growth mindset and enhances the educational experience for all our students.”

Major emphasized that the Ohio School Report Card is just one measure of success. It provides a snapshot of performance based on a specific set of tests. “While we use this data to guide our instructional decisions and improve our practices, it does not define the full scope of our success. Our students and staff are much more than test scores, and we remain committed to providing a comprehensive education that supports their overall growth and development.”

The ODE evaluates performance across five key areas:

  • Achievement: Measures student performance on state tests in various subjects.

  • Progress: Tracks changes in achievement over time.

  • Gap Closing: Assesses the reduction of educational disparities among student subgroups.

  • Graduation: Evaluates four-year and five-year graduation rates.

  • Early Literacy: Focuses on reading proficiency for students in grades K-3.

Midview maintained four out of five stars in both achievement and graduation, and five stars in gap closing. While the district experienced a decrease in the progress rating, it showed improvements in early literacy, achieving four stars and exceeding state standards.

In more specific terms, the district surpassed performance expectations in English language arts achievement, math achievement, progress for English Language Learners, and gifted education. Areas identified for improvement include early literacy in grades K-2 and math achievement in grades 5 through high school, as well as biology and English language arts progress.

Looking ahead, the district leadership team will continue to analyze data and review trends. Professional development days will be utilized to provide targeted support for teachers, focusing on areas needing improvement and offering specific interventions where necessary.

Within the ODE’s “Similar Districts” framework, which compares districts with similar demographics, Midview outscored most, averaging 4.5 stars and ranking first overall. The district’s schools ranked third in Lorain County and are positioned within the top 30% statewide—a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, staff, and community.

Midview Local Schools remains committed to providing the best possible services and resources for our students in an environment that promotes the highest level of learning.
