PLTW

Midview Local Schools is proud to announce the district has been recognized as a 2020-2021 Project Lead the Way Distinguished District for their commitment to increasing student access, engagement and achievement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programming. For the second time since 2019, Midview Schools is the only district in Ohio to receive the recognition.

PLTW is a nonprofit organization that develops STEM curricula for elementary, middle and high schools across the U.S. Through PLTW programs, students develop STEM knowledge as well as in-demand, transportable skills they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take. PLTW empowers students to lead their own discovery and uncover a range of paths and possibilities they can look forward to in high school and beyond.

“We congratulate our staff and students at Midview Local Schools,” said Dr. Bruce Willingham, superintendent at Midview Local Schools. “The PLTW program is one that has generated a lot of buzz within our district, and we’re proud of the work our students have done over the years. They’ve grown in areas of science and engineering, and that is due to the amount of hands-on learning they’re able to do.”

Midview was one of only 17 school districts in the country to receive the Distinguished District award, with all five Midview schools being recognized in their respective categories. Midview East Intermediate, Midview North Elementary and West Elementary schools received the Distinguish School Launch award, designed to tap into students’ exploratory nature, engaging them in learning that feels like play. Midview East, West and North schools join approximately 300 schools in the U.S. earning the PLTW Distinguished School Launch award.

East Intermediate School also received the Distinguished School Gateway award, joining Midview Middle School and approximately 300 schools in the country to also receive the award. PLTW Gateway expands on the Launch design, providing more opportunities for students to engage, excite and collaborate on STEM-centric projects.

Midview High School is one of 200 U.S. high schools to receive the Distinguished High School award, recognizing the school’s efforts in engaging students in real-world challenges based in areas of computer science, biomedical science and engineering.

“PLTW is such a great program for our students,” said Dr. Frank Major the District’s Director of Education. “They’re engaged in the programs and these awards are testament to the work and focus our students put forth. Our teachers have been tremendous, and this is a terrific and well-deserved honor for them. We’re so appreciative of the programming and how it has benefited our students.”
