The National Honor Society (NHS) is founded on four core pillars—scholarship, service, leadership, and character—which serve as both a guiding standard for its members and an inspiring example for the entire student body. Prior to the district’s spring break, 24 students from the classes of 2025 and 2026 were inducted into Midview High School’s NHS chapter.
The requirements and membership protocol for the National Honor Society rest solely on its four pillars. To be nominated for Midview’s chapter, candidates must be enrolled at Midview High School by the third week of the current school year and be either a junior (spring eligibility only) or senior (eligible in both fall and spring). Students are notified of their eligibility if they maintain a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
If invited to apply for membership, candidates must prove completion of eight service hours from the current academic year. They are also required to request sponsorship from five different individuals who may attest to the student's participation in service and leadership activities outside of academics. Character, the fourth and arguably the most transparent of the pillars, is determined by ratings from the academic faculty at Midview High School. Character assessment includes but is not limited to behavior, timeliness, honesty, integrity, discipline, and flexibility both inside and outside the academic environment. The last step in the application process is performed anonymously by a council that assesses all applicants’ scores and documents to determine whether or not the student will be inducted.
The Midview High School chapter of NHS achieved chartership on April 22, 1956. Our 68th induction ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of the following students:
